Terms and Conditions Gold Buying

When selling your precious metals or jewellery/Watches you warrant that:

  • You are over the age of 18.

  • You reside in the UK.

  • You are legally capable to enter into a contract.

  • You are the legal owner of the goods that you are selling.

  • The items you sell to Hatton Jewellers ltd are free from any liability, adverse claim of any type.

  • You are using this service privately in a personal capacity only free from commercial or business purposes.

  • All information you provide must be true and accurate to your knowledge.

  • We reserve the right to request proof of purchase when buying your gold, watch, assorted jewellery

  • You will provide proof of identity as required by law.

How to enter a contract:

  • When selling by post, you will need to fill in the “request Your Quote” form on the website, https://www.hatton-jewellers.com/spot-gold . It is essential that you present us with the weights and carats of the metal you are selling.

  • Once we review the submitted form, you will be provided with a quote / price for your metal.

  • Our prices are calculated and provided by the online calculator form, which is based on the AM Gold price on the given date you complete the form.

  • Our prices are calculated twice a day according to the daily price of gold. The amount which you will be paid for your metal on the day we receive the jewellery /metal /watch may not be the same amount calculated by the online calculator. The price paid will be based on the gold price of the day, the hallmark on the metal. Stones on the jewellery will have to be removed so we can calculate the net weight of the metal alone.

  • By completing and submitting the “Request Your Quote” form on the website and by posting your gold/metal/watch/assorted jewellery to us you make an official irrevocable offer to sell your metal to Hatton Jewellers.

How to post your metal:

  • You can choose to send your metal to Hatton Jewellers either by requesting a pre-paid postage bag or by posting the parcel to us directly. Our pre-paid postal bag service is only available to customers who have filled in the “Request your Quote” form on the website and provided us with their full and correct details and form customers who have requested to sell their gold via post. Both of the above, will need to have accepted our terms and conditions.

  • When selling your gold to Hatton Jewellers by post through the pre-paid postal bag service, the amount of £8.95 will be deducted from your total payment in order to cover the postal expenses of your metal. In case your metal turns out to be non-gold , the amount of 8.95 will be charged in order to return your metal back to you.

  • Any parcel that looks like it has been tampered with, will be rejected by Hatton Jewellers.

Instructions of how to safely post your metal to us.

  • We recommend using royal mail special delivery, signed and tracked for service.

  • Parcel your items securely inside the royal mail special delivery bag and post it at your local post office, or you can arrange a secure collection service.

  • Please make sure that the parcel follows the below parameters in order to be accepted by Hatton Jewellers.

  • Make sure it is securely packaged and the metal does not spill within the parcel but is rather contained within a box or a bag.

  • Please make sure there is a letter with your name, phone number, email address and reference number inside the parcel.

  • Please make sure you have purchased the correct postage with adequate insurance when posting the items yourself and not through our pre-paid postage service, as you and the sender are liable for the safe delivery of your parcel.

  • When posting your metal/jewellery/watch directly to us, not through our pre-paid postage bag service, the sender is responsible for the safe delivery of the parcel and its contents while in transit until it is delivered to us.

  • We recommend using Royal Mail-special delivery service with adequate insurance to cover the value of the contents. This service covers the value between £500 - £2,500. If your items are priced at a higher value than £2,500, it is recommended to send them in separate Special Delivery parcels in order to obtain a full value cover.

How Hatton Jewellers processes your metal:

  • The day we receive your metal, we will send you an email notification and complete an assessment of the contents.

  • In order to accurately decide the value of your pieces,we will need to conduct both destructive and non-destructive testing. This may include;acid testing, filling, dismantling, removal of stones and other stones and non precious metals such as springs etc.

  • Please note, the testing process may permanently, scratch, stain or break your metal pieces.

  • Hatton Jewellers is not to be held responsible for returning the assorted jewellery/metal pieces/scrap gold, etc, in the same condition as when we received it.

  • Hatton Jewellers is not to be held responsible for any losses which may occur during the testing procedures.

  • Hatton Jewellers reserves the right to refurbish and or resell any item purchased at our discretion.

  • Once the assessment of the metal has been completed and Hatton Jewellers agrees on the price on the “Request your Quote “ form, we will then accept the offer.

  • Hatton Jewellers will pay only for the weight of the metal actually received and nothing else.

  • Once you have submitted your “Request Quote” form and Hatton Jewellers has in principle accepted the offer, given that the metal type, weight and carat are in person the same as you mentioned in the “Request Quote” form, as you dictated, then we will pay the metal based on the gold price per gram on the day agreed, and we will hold it for 7 days.

  • In case the metal and carats differ to the ones mentioned in your “Request Quote “ form, then Hatton Jewellers will pay for the metal based on the price of the metal on the day your quote was accepted, provided that this was within the last 7 days since receipt of the metal physically by Hatton Jewellers.

When Hatton Jewellers does not agree with the customer’s assessment of the metal details, Hatton Jewellers reserves the right to not accept the customer’s request/offer and will proceed as follows:

  • Hatton Jewellers will send you an offer for the metal via email or phone only based on the metal type,carat and weight tested by us. You will then have the option to accept or reject the offer, in which case we will return the metal back to you via royal mail special delivery. This service will cost £8.95 per parcel worth up to £1,000. If the metal is worth more, then we will charge £8.95 for every £1,000 of value to be sent back to you.

  • We only offer a Price Guarantee for the sale of precious metals, scrap metals, bars, coins, bullions with a total value up to £5,000 or less, sent to us via our “Request prepaid postbag” service. This is only applicable to users of this service and does not apply to in-store customers. Each customer can only have one open transaction with Hatton Jewellers at a time. It is essential that we have already received the metal, assessed it, accepted your offer and finalized the payment for your current metal sale before we can offer you a price guarantee for another sale. Please note that gold prices are subject to market fluctuations across the global market, especially on UK bank holidays and weekends, this should be taken into account in order to decide the price guarantee service.

  • In the case the market price of metal changes more than £5.00 per ounce compared to the price you were promised during “Price Guarantee”, then Hatton Jewellers reserves the right to revise the price given on a “Price Guarantee” service based on the am or live market trading price of the metal on the day and time of processing your items at our counter or upon receipt via post. In case the price of gold per ounce changes more than £14 when we physically receive your metal, then the price guarantee is voided and we will need to calculate a new price for you. If this occurs, then Hatton Jewellers will reach out to you and return your goods free of charge.

Valuation process:

  • Hatton Jewellers is compliant with the Data Protection act and we will only contact you on the details you have willingly provided.

  • In case the metal received is different in weight and characteristics than the one agreed in your request quote form, then we will contact you via email in order to confirm the new quote and then proceed with the payment either via uk bank transfer or paypal payment.

  • If you wish to reject the offer, you must do so within 7 days. Once the offer is rejected, we will send back your metal via post.

Ownership

  • Hatton Jewellers will only accept responsibility for loss or damage to your metal only if we have already accepted the delivery of your metal in writing via email.

  • In such cases, Hatton Jewellers is responsible only to a maximum liability of : the lower of: the Headline Rate at the date of the occurrence. Our services are for domestic and private uses only and not for business.
